Plant Based, Soy and Green

We use soy wax in all of our candles and natural potpourri products.

Soy wax is a renewable, biodegradable source of energy and material

that does not emit harmful toxins or carcinogens.  Soy wax is burns longer and

produces 90% less soot than traditional paraffin based candles. 

Soy wax is safe for our environment and using soy products encourages

a greener lifestyle.

Easy to use. Each Prairie Bug fire starter lasts for about 20 minutes. PRAIRIE BUGS: Start the story, sing the song, cherish the night sky. Driving through the Heartland of Iowa one summer evening, the sun dipped down behind the horizon in front of us. Miles of corn and soy fields stretched out on either side in gentle curves and hills... and we kept driving, thinking distant thoughts. Suddenly we realized it was dark. But the fields were alive with millions of tiny fireflies, like fairies lighting our way. We had been so pre-occupied we almost missed the magic. And so, the idea for Praire Bugs was born!!! Directions: Place one Prairie Bug, with the soy wax end up, securely into the stack of wood or within the kindling you are lighting. It should be placed at an angle, with the wax end up and the cardboard end down and toward you. Light the cardboard. Once the flame reaches the wax, it will maintain a sustained burn, slow enough to ignite the fire you want. Not a toy- Keep out of reach of children. Not to be used as a candle. Patent Pending. What a wonderful way to light a fire! We used one to light our first fire of the season and found it to be fun and easy to use. There were none of the chemical fumes we've smelled with other commercial fire starters, no bleach, no petroleum based inks. I kept thinking what cool gifts these little fire starters would be. The bugs came in a charming little box of twelve that would make cute, environmentally righteous gifts! We highly recommend these Prairie Bugs!

Very simple and seem to be foolproof without all the chemicals and emissions. Just put the wood in the firebox, wedge one or two of these in and touch a match to the cardboard side.
